Prefina Kahelekesa is from DR Congo and is 24 years old. She was born and raised in Israel, where her parents escaped the civil war from their country. She currently lives in Holon and completed her secondary education in Israel.
Prefina is in her second year of studying interior design and architecture at the Holon Institute for Technology (HIT). Her program requires four years of studies. Prefina states, “I am the only African student in this college, and all the students are from rich families except myself.” Prefina said, “I have loved design since I was young. I applied to study architecture, but I managed to pass the preliminary test, so I had to have a fall-year property program in designing, then I applied to interior design, which I am studying now”. She said the interior design program is intense and complex because she studies interior design and architecture in the same program.
Prefina has been considered to be a beacon of resilience. She has a message for the youth who were born in Israel or arrived as minors. She demonstrates that if you love something, go for it; eventually, you will succeed. Despite numerous difficulties when she started to study, she overcame them, proving that determination and perseverance can lead to victory.
Prefina extends her heartfelt gratitude to the African Student Organization (ASO) and the generous donors who have been supporting her. She assures that their grants have been instrumental in reducing her tuition fees, which she deeply appreciates. She emphasizes that their support has been appreciated both last year and this year
